If you own a car and are moving out to transfer to a new house, or simply want to go out for a long vacation with your car in tow, then you need auto transport services.

Auto transporting also called vehicle shipping is the process of moving or transporting a vehicle from a source point to a destination point. The source point does not necessarily mean your home, and neither does the destination point refer to your new house or vacation home. You could move a vehicle from anywhere to anywhere.

Transporting a vehicle is no ordinary task. A special truck is usually needed. This is the reason why most moving companies do not include car transporting in their list of services. Auto transport is a highly-specialized service all by itself, so you need to hire an auto transport broker or an auto transport carrier.

Often, an 8- or 10-car hauler truck the same kind of truck used for transporting new vehicles to vehicle dealers is used to move your vehicle. These are often open trucks that measure seventy-five to eighty feet long and fourteen feet high. But if youre not convinced that these trucks can transport your vehicle safely, you may opt for an enclosed truck. This will cost you more, however.

So if youre planning to move out any time soon and you want to bring your vehicle with you, you better start looking for an auto transport company now. Auto transport companies usually require a two- to three-week leeway prior to your preferred transport date. They use this time to schedule the transport of your vehicle properly. If you do not have extra time, however, you can always request for an immediate transport, although theres no guarantee that your request would be granted.
